Excuse Me, Is This Seat Taken?

Posted by XUMO on Apr 11, 2017 5:22:48 PM

This week on the Junk Food Blog, we’re catching you up on all the latest and greatest (and some not so-greatest) happenings. We’ve got the Senate going “Nuclear” (not to be confused with the Syria Strikes, which you can catch up on, here) to officially approve Judge Neil Gorsuch’s appointment to the Supreme Court, and the secret that nobody knows (and by nobody, we mean everybody) to making the perfect grilled cheese for National Grilled Cheese Day. To continue the fun, we’ve got United Airline’s hot mess express of a month and the 2017 Masters champion that has been working for that title since the 90s. It’s new, it’s great and it’s all on XUMO! Enjoy everybody!

WATCH: Gorsuch Sworn in as 113th Supreme Court Justice

Remember that line in wedding vows that goes “Till death do us part”? Judge Neil Gorsuch certainly does. On Monday, he officially became BFFLs (best friends for life) with the Supreme Court and was sworn in as the 113th justice. Not kidding about the whole ‘for life’ part– justices serve no fixed term – they serve until their death (like Gorsuch’s predecessor Justice Antonin Scalia), retirement or conviction by the Senate. I know what you’re thinking, “Didn’t the Dems vehemently oppose Gorsuch?” Yes, good point! The GOP-led Senate went “Nuclear” (aka changed the rule book) so they no longer needed minority party support for a nominee to get the job and confirmed Gorsuch last week. After this bumpy, year-long road, this was a big win for Trump’s #squad and he not only praised the new justice at the swearing in, but also gave himself a figurative gold star for getting it done during his first 100 days in office. Click here to see how it all went down on the Reuters channel on XUMO.

WATCH: How to Make the Perfect Grilled Cheese

Sweet dreams are made of cheese, and, who am I to disagree?  Okay, that might not be how the song goes, but I also don’t disagree with this version, either. Wednesday is National Grilled Cheese day, and aside from our regularly cheesy jokes (What kind of music does cheese listen to?... R ‘n; Brie, obvi), we want to make sure you’re prepared with the know how to create the perfect grilled cheese. As Mom always says, “tryyy it, you’ll like it!!” And if you don’t, we know another fan favorite that goes well with cheese. It starts with ‘W’ and ends with ‘ine’ and our friends at Wine Oh TV coincidentally have a great channel on XUMO, too!

WATCH: United Airlines Passenger Dragged Off Flight

If there’s one group you’ve seen in the headlines more than Trump, it’s United Airlines. The company has given flight to the meaning “hot mess express” this month.  First, there was #leggingsgate when a United gate agent said ‘bye bye bye’ to two teenage girls wearing leggings and restricted their access to the plane because they were not dressed properly. Don’t get your leggings in a bunch too fast, the travelers were part of United’s employee pass program and had purchased tickets at a discounted rate. The fine print with those rates is a dress code that does not permit leggings. So, no, United Airlines is not judging your yoga pants. But, you can get the lowdown on that here courtesy of the TYT Channel on XUMO. More recently was the unsettling video footage taken on a United Airlines flight of security guards dragging a passenger off the plane by his hands and legs. Why in the world would they do that? Well, my friends, it has to do with a little thing they like to call overselling. Almost all major airlines oversell their flights to account for the inevitable no-shows but sometimes the bluff doesn’t work and everyone actually shows up. Like in this case. United asked for volunteers to give up their seats and when no one raised their hand, they randomly picked people to kick-off – kicking and screaming and all. Enter stage right, the internet wrath of a thousand suns on United, like the birth of the #NewUnitedAirlinesMottos hashtag.

WATCH: Sergio Garcia Wins The Masters

Alright, next we have a pop quiz for you. At what age are you considered a legal adult in the United States? How old do you have to be to vote? Ding ding ding, you guessed correctly (working off the honor code here), 18!! 18-years is also how long it took our new 2017 Masters Champion, Sergio Garcia, to win this sought-after title. This is one of those success stories that will set the standard for locker room pep talks and motivational fight songs for years to come. Five-years ago you could say that Garcia actually put the O in “hole in one’ and by that we mean he had 0 wins out of 73 previous Major appearances. At one point he even stated that he’d never have the skills to win a major. Queue some Karate Kid wax on, wax off action, and with a birdie on the first playoff hole we said goodbye Tiger, Hello Sergio!

This Week in the News on XUMO

Posted by XUMO on Mar 20, 2017 3:31:46 PM

This week on the Junk Food Blog, the headlines say it all. No hilarious videos of President Trump’s Ultimate March Madness Bracket or Grandma selfies—although we have those, too (check out the Funny or Die and FailArmy channels on XUMO)! Instead, we’re highlighting some pretty weighty news breaking this week and XUMO wants to make sure you have the information you need to understand what’s going on, formulate your own opinions, and then hide under the covers if that’s your choice (no judgment!). We’ve got the UK formally beginning the Brexit process, the NSA Director addressing allegations from President Trump that he was spied on by the UK, the FBI Director addressing allegations from President Trump that the President Obama administration spied on him, and Tom Brady’s stolen football jersey (valued at $500,000 and located thanks to the help of about $100 million in taxpayer resources). This is important stuff, and it’s all on XUMO. Happy Monday, everyone!

WATCH: UK Sets Date for Beginning of Brexit

Brexit is real. Brexit is happening. The process begins March 29. And now the UK gets it’s opportunity to play the part of the scorned lover with the power to take vengeance. Will they be kind, gentle and tender during the breakup? I’m going to go with a big fat NO on that one. But, hey, maybe they will rise above and look for the best possible end result for all involved. If not….LLLLLLLLLLLLLLET'S GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE! To learn more about how this will all begin to unfold on March 29 and where the proverbial dominos might fall, click here to watch it on the Veuer channel on XUMO.

WATCH: NSA Director Says He Didn’t Ask UK to Spy on Trump

Our relationship with British intelligence is arguably the strongest relationship the US has with any foreign service. Politically, the British are arguably our closest allies. It is inarguably illegal to ask a foreign country to spy on an American citizen. Simply put—this allegation is a big deal and it needs to be addressed. If the UK did spy on then presidential nominee Donald Trump, the fallout will impact global relationships and alliances in previously inconceivable ways. If it isn’t true, then this is the kind of fake news and fear mongering that can cause real damage to our society and destabilize the world as a whole. Either way, it’s important to hear what NSA Director Rogers has to say on this subject so we all know where the US intelligence community stands on the subject. Learn more by watching this video on XUMO’s Bloomberg channel.

WATCH: The Top Brady Jersey Thief

What do the New England Patriots, Houston Police Department, Texas Rangers (the law enforcement group, not the baseball team—I know, the lines are getting blurred here), Texas Lieutenant Governor and FBI all have in common? I’m so glad you asked. This, my friends, is a collective of individuals and organizations displaying a tremendous amount of synergy and focus to achieve something important for our country and utilizing national resources to get it done. No, they aren’t fixing healthcare, or taxes, or immigration, or…let me just stop you right there because you aren’t even close. They’ve found Tom Brady’s Super bowl jersey. Check out the story now on the Newsy channel because, let’s be honest, at this point we’ve heard so much about this jersey we’d all like to know how this thing is going to be resolved. Then, let’s collectively take solace in the fact that this can finally be over and the Texas Lieutenant Governor can get back to…really anything other than finding a football jersey.

WATCH: FBI Director Says There’s “No Evidence” Obama Wiretapped President Trump

Well, you can’t put the genie back in the bottle—or maybe you can. I have had very limited genie interaction and would not presume to know your genie-taming skills. Nonetheless, as soon as President Trump sent out that fateful tweet alleging the Obama administration wiretapped Trump Tower, you could feel the country moving to opposite sides of the argument. Whether you dismissed the claim out of hand or took it as the gospel truth, there’s a good chance anything FBI Director Comey says won’t change your mind at this point. However, there’s always value in at least hearing what our intelligence community has to say so take a few minutes to watch something that really matters today and check out this video from TIME broadcasting Director Comey’s remarks on the allegations.

Specials of the Week: Oscars 2017

Posted by XUMO on Feb 27, 2017 1:20:50 PM

This week on the Junk Food Blog, it’s post-Oscar’s pandemonium. La La Land got screwed, or Moonlight got screwed, or Warren Beatty got screwed? We’re so confused! Plus, Jimmy Kimmel takes up conducting to ensure Matt Damon knows he’s not welcome, blue is totally the new fashion trend on the red carpet and the Oscars mistake no one is talking about—but should! It’s all here on this week’s edition of the Junk Food Blog—WTF just happened at the Oscar’s edition!

WATCH: La La Land / Moonlight Debacle

Sooo that happened. Is it just me or are there a million and five questions in your head, too, as to what exactly went on here? Why were there two envelopes? Did they have both of them onstage? Why did we only see Bonnie and Clyde with one envelope when they walked out? Why did Warren Beatty decide it was okay to hijack even more of Moonlight’s time by going back on to explain what happened (and thereby opening this up to a thousand new questions)? Who was that guy who noticed and where exactly did he get the correct card from? So many questions! We don’t have the answers…yet! But, we do have some great reaction backstage as everyone tried to make sense of what they were seeing right along with all of us at home. You can check the clip out right here on the Reuters XUMO channel.

WATCH: Kimmel Plays Off Matt Damon

Whether he was in on this particular joke or not, we can’t say. One thing we can say for the record, however, is that Matt Damon is a national treasure and his reaction to Jimmy Kimmel literally trying to drown him out and play him off the stage while he attempted to deliver the nominees for who knows what category during the Oscar’s last night was perfect. He seemed flummoxed, flabbergasted, and, ultimately, defeated as he mercifully threw it to the video montage. The most underrated funny part of this whole exchange—Ben Affleck, who stood there trying not to burst out laughing at his buddy who was clearly not going to win this battle in the epic, unending beef/bromance between Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel. Watch Matt Damon fight the good fight on the TIME XUMO channel here.
