Here's What's New

May’s Most Memorable, So Far.

Posted by XUMO on May 2, 2017 3:43:37 PM

This week on the Junk Food Blogwe’ve got a little bit of everything for you. The premiere of what might be the next bingeworthy series to hit a screen near you, President Trump’s 100th day in office, the potential break-up that has Chris Paul thinking it might be time to say “It’s not you, it’s me,” and everyone’s OOTD from Monday night’s annual Met Gala. It’s gonna be good...and it’s gonna be already MAY.

WATCH: What Is "American Gods" About?

Shadow Moon and Wednesday. Two seemingly unrelated, nonsensical, and just plain confusing words when put together. If we had to take a guess, our bet would be that there is some sort of obscure lunar eclipse taking place this week. Queue the wrong buzzer sound. In reality, those are the two main characters of Starz latest series, American Gods. The first episode of the series was released this past Sunday, and it’s the talk of the (online) town. One quick Google search, and you’re bound to see the words “bizarre,” “gory,” and “mysterious” thrown around several times. This was enough to pique our interest in the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel, published in 2001, and, we’re looking forward to finding out what the hype is all about. If you care to join in on the fun, check out this short synopsis via the Wochit Channel on XUMO.

WATCH: President Trump's 100-Day Score Card

Believe it or not, the first 100 days of President Trump have come and gone. Last Saturday was the Trump administration’s 100th day in office. A lot can go down in 100 days, and despite there being no official “performance review” scheduled for this day, it still happened anyways, just off the record. Since taking office, there’s been no lack of conversation surrounding immigration, the Supreme Court, healthcare, trade and a whole bunch of executive orders. If all of this is starting to ring a bell, click here to watch the team at Bloomberg reflect on the last 100 days.

WATCH: Should Chris Paul Leave the Clippers and Start Chasing Titles?

We know what you’re thinking, “WHY in the world is everyone talking about the NBA draft when it doesn’t even take place until June, and the playoffs are still in full swing?” Okay, maybe that wasn’t what you were thinking, but we bet you are now! Now that we’re both on the same page, let’s talk about it. The NBA just released it’s early entry candidates for the upcoming draft, and one of the questions we’re on the edge of our seats about is whether Chris Paul is going to stop chasing waterfalls, and start chasing titles. Aside from the cringeworthy TLC reference that just happened, Chris Paul is in quite the predicament this year. The question that has him on the edge of his seat, is whether the ring (aka winning a championship) is more important than making $7 million off his contract alone. We know what we’d pick, but want to let you formulate your own opinions on this one. Watch the debate via FOX Sports on XUMO.

WATCH: Rihanna on Taking an Hour To Get Into Her Crazy Outfit

NYC rolled out the red carpet last night for the annual Met Gala, and the stars rolled out their best (and questionable) outfits. For starters, Katy Perry took Red Riding Hood to a whole new level, Jaden Smith came as Dracula, and RiRi reportedly took an hour to get into her shoes. That’s one time that walking a mile in someone else’s shoes is probably not a good idea. Kim K fully committed to the simple look, even foregoing her husband for the night, and Zoë Kravitz stole all of the roses from The Bachelor, to create her dress. Aside from being one of the most prestigious benefits in the country, it also has the makings of the next best parody to hit theatres. Until Hollywood gets on board with that, find out how long it took Bella Hadid to get ready for the Gala via Vogue on XUMO.

F is for Female Astronauts, Fox News, & #Frexit

Posted by XUMO on Apr 25, 2017 9:49:04 AM

This week on the Junk Food Blog, we’re as eclectic as the outfits you saw at Coachella weekend #2. While there won’t be any flower crowns or crop tops here, we do have a female astronaut breaking boundaries all the way to space, a refresher course in sexual harassment feat. Fox News, an eerily familiar French election, and a punny stick-y bun recipe that will have your mouth watering. What do all these things have in common? They’re all on XUMO!

WATCH: NASA Astronaut Peggy Whitson Keeps Breaking Space Records

Sandra Bullock, move over—there’s a new space mover and shaker in town. NASA Astronaut, Peggy Whitson just broke the record for spending the most cumulative time in space for any American, EVER. To date, she has spent 534 days, 2 hours, and 49 minutes in space. Doesn’t that make you want to sing that song from Rent that goes “five hundred twenty five thousand, six hundred minuteeeesss!” Okay, that might be a stretch. But, wait, her records don’t stop there. She is also the first female to command the ISS (International Space Station, please take caution and make sure not to add an extra “I” into that acronym) TWICE, and has completed the most spacewalks of any female astronaut. Think she ever did the moonwalk up there? You can ask her that question as soon as she returns, which is scheduled for September. In the meantime, check out how cool she is via the Newsy channel on XUMO.

WATCH: CNN Anchor Alisyn Camerota: 'Ailes Did Sexually Harass Me'

Remember when you were in middle or high school and you learned what sexual harassment was and the whole, “it’s not okay” part of the lesson? Well, apparently, Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly both pulled a Ferris Bueller that day and played hookie. ICYMI, over the last year, Fox News has been handing out detention slips left and right for sexual harassment and expelled (aka fired) chairman, Roger Ailes and anchor, Bill O’Reilly due to over a dozen claims against the two. This PR nightmare for Fox News is the gift that keeps on giving...literally. Ailes and O’Reilly supposedly received a hefty $65 million (combined) in severance. You might be feeling all the feels when reading about this, and so did former Fox News anchor, Alisyn Camerota. She came forward and spoke about her experience, and you can watch it here, courtesy of TIME, on XUMO.

WATCH: The Results Are In For France's Presidential Election

The days are gone of booing someone off stage with rotten tomatoes or produce; now it’s all about the pastry ingredients. If you didn’t see the John Oliver episode on the French election, then you might be confused. No worries, we got your back. France is in the midst of their presidential election, and after Sunday’s preliminary round, the country voted off 9 of the 11 candidates. No one candidate received over 50% of the vote which results in a runoff and second round election, taking place on May 7. The two finalists left to duke it out for the presidency, Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron, are about as similar as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, or even Taylor Swift and Kanye. Le Pen leans far right and is pro ‘Frexit’ and immigration bans. Macron is a centrist and leans more on the Hillary side of those aforementioned issues. Feeling a bit of Déjà vu? Us, too. Watch more on the French Election, here.

1 burger, 3-pointers, 26 miles, & 100 iPhones!

Posted by XUMO on Apr 18, 2017 4:45:00 PM

Recently, the headlines have been a bit heavy (and have us saying TL;DR too often), so we’re taking a brief hiatus from international political mishaps this week, and staying closer to home. This week on the Junk Food Blog, it’s all about shootin’ some hoops with the latest on the NBA playoffs (like who’s in-it-to-win-it), and a 70-year old woman, who, in the words of Forrest Gump, “just kept on runninggg.” We’ve also got a Coachella debacle (because it wouldn’t be weekend #1 without a scandal), and a West coast recipe that you definitely want to get your hands on. On your mark, get set, GO!!

WATCH: Warriors vs. Blazers 1st-Round Series

Forget about the Empire State of Mind; these days it’s all about the Golden State of Mind. The first round of the NBA playoffs started this past weekend and the talk of the town is all about the Golden State Warriors (#1 seed) vs. the Portland Trail Blazers (#8 seed). Not only are the two teams ready and willing to talk trash, but the Warriors are also favored to sweep the number 8 seed to the side on their journey to score those championship rings. Or, in Draymond Green’s case, swat them to the side. The first game of the series ended in a W for Golden State, defeating Portland 121-109. While that wasn’t exactly a surprise, one of the many looming questions is if the Warrior’s will still slam dunk the Blazer’s out of the playoffs as easily as predicted.  Would it be a different story if Jusuf Nurkik came back? What if the Warrior’s didn’t have Kevin Durant? And, who should Steph Curry be guarding? We’re just as curious as you are! Which is why we’re really glad it’s being discussed via FOX Sports on XUMO. Watch here, to get in on the discussion.

WATCH: First Female Boston Marathon Runner Races Again

Who run the world? Girls! That’s the song we envision was playing on Kathrine Switzer’s iPod as she ran in the Boston Marathon for the second time this past Monday. Other than a Queen Bey fan, you might recognize her as the first woman to officially run in the Boston Marathon back in 1967. Switzer was told to ‘get the hell out of my race’ by a Marathon official who tried to rip her bib (No. 261) off, but with some support from fellow racers, she was able to finish.  Fast forward fifty years, and she’s back, back again (thanks Slim Shady). If you’re not already inspired by this story, this oughta do it: Switzer completed the race on Monday in a little over 4-hours, and her bib #261 was officially retired in her honor. [Insert slow clap here]. Click here to watch more on this, courtesy of Sports Illustrated on XUMO.

WATCH: Coachella Festival-Goers Band Together to Catch Thief

Pic or it didn’t happen. That’s what hundreds of Coachella festival-goers almost couldn’t deliver on this past weekend when a thief stole over a hundred phones at the music festival. Fortunately, Steve Jobs could see into the future and knew this might happen so he and the rest of Apple created “Find my Phone” which allows someone to locate their phone remotely. This was how the phone-bandit was caught, and everyone was able to press play and resume a happy ending to their weekend. See how it all went down, via the Veuer channel on XUMO. And to think, if the phone-bandit was never caught then we might have missed out on this awesome video compilation of these Coachella bound cats! TGFC (thank goodness for Coachella...or cats).

WATCH: In-N-Out Burger at Home

Ever heard the phrase, ‘West Coast Best Coast”? It was coined because the XUMO HQ is located on the West Coast. Okay, just kidding, but it should be! What the phrase is probably referring to is the infamous In-N-Out burger, which is the envy of just about everyone who doesn’t live on the west side of the country. The iconic Double-Double is held sacred and likely the most Instagrammed hamburger of all time. And now, we are ready to share the secret with you, even if you don’t live on the West coast. Yep, you heard that right. On this week’s Tastemaker Tuesday, learn how to make your own In-N-Out burger at home! Click here to get the recipe, via the Tastemade channel on XUMO.
